While tame based on todays’ standards, Elvis was seen as a rebel and edgy – a true bad boy of rock. Using this as a focal point and inspired by "Jailhouse Rock" this painting captures Elvis in his earlier years, while putting a modern tattooed spin on "The King of Rock and Roll".

In creating this piece, I wanted to capture Jimi Hendrix with his legendary Fender Stratocaster. In paying tribute to this legend, I chose to veer away from the typical “concert performance pieces” I create which portray the musicians in iconic poses.

Joey Ramone, lead vocalist of punk rock band the Ramones was a countercultural icon. "Wanna Be Sedated" with the infamous lyrics “Twenty, Twenty, Twenty Four Hours to Go” was the perfect song to use as the inspiration for this piece.
